Everyday Essentials, Close to Home

Not all of Narayani’s work travels across oceans. Last year, closer to home, our community organized a donation drive for Loaves & Fishes Community Services — a food pantry that has spent years feeding families across our own corner of Illinois.

To make every dollar count, we focused on high-need, everyday essentials: shelf-stable pantry staples — rice, pasta, dry beans, oatmeal, and whole grains — alongside nutritious canned goods, from proteins like tuna and chicken to hearty soups, vegetables, and fruit packed in juice.

We were careful to include something food drives often overlook — personal care and toiletries: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other hygiene products. These are vital to daily dignity, yet they cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits, leaving many families to go without.

Every dollar went directly toward tangible items that families rely on week after week. Supporting organizations like Loaves & Fishes helps ensure our neighbors have reliable access to both nutritious meals and the essential personal-care products that make daily life whole.
